SPEAKER AT A GLANCE:

Brian Kilp is a professor of music at the School of Music, Indiana State University (ISU). He is the Academic Department Coordinator and Academic Advisor. He is also a member of Indiana State University’s Faculty Brass and Woodwind Quintet. Prof.Dr. Brian Kilp has many years of experience working internationally and constantly promotes international cooperation between universities around the world through performances, scholarships, faculty and student exchanges, teaching, and organizing. Organizing summer courses abroad for students and lecturers of various majors and ISU.

Brian Kilp is a tenured Professor of Music at the Indiana State University School of Music. He is the coordinator of the Academic Division and an Academic Advisor. He is also a member of the Indiana State University Faculty Brass and Woodwind Quintets. His assigned duties have included teaching in the horn studio and academic courses. He is also active in promoting international collaboration, performances, scholarship, and International faculty-led student travel experiences.

SYNOPSIS:

This presentation covers 100 years of American and international popular music, including pop music, popular instruments, singers, singers artists, and fans. The presentation also covers the recording industry and music marketing industry, radio, television, music business aspects, touring artists and their lives. All of this influenced the development and changes in Pop music.

The talk also focused on the origins of Pop music in America and how it has transformed over the years. We will also see Pop music associated with cultural, political, and social issues, issues of race, class, and gender, the development of the music business, and the development of technology.

Today, Pop music is constantly changing. We will also discuss other countries around the world that have begun to contribute to the overall picture of Pop music in this day and age. Finally, the talk will talk about some outstanding artists and how they played music through decades and eras, and the audience will have the opportunity to listen to famous musical works of the past 100 years.

This presentation will cover about 100 years of American and international popular music, including popular music, and the more common instruments used, and discuss singers and singers as artists, and listeners as fans. The presentation also talks a little bit about the recording industry and the marketing industry, about the radio, TV, music business, and touring aspects of artists and their lives, and how that affects the changes in popular music as it develops and diversifies.

The talk will focus on the roots of American popular music and how they’ve transformed over the years. We will also see popular music in the context of Social, political, and cultural issues, Issues of race, class, and gender, the development of the music business, and the development of technology

Pop music is still undergoing constant change. We will also discuss other countries that began to contribute, which significantly altered the landscape of popular music then as do others in the present day. As we move along, the presentation will point out some of the more significant artists and play music of many times and eras, so that the audience will get to hear examples of about 100 years of popular music.
